Keeping Up Appearances Full Bouquet

Keeping Up Appearances: The Full Bouquet (2008)
This official name of this re-release is "Keeping up Appearances: The Full Bouquet Special Edition". Based on images of the set it appears to be in either slim-pack cases or a digi-pack design. This set contains the same 8 disks as the original "Full Bouquet" set along with the special "Keeping up Appearances: Life Lessons from Onslow" added as the 9th disk. The Onslow special is available separately so you don't need to double-dip for this title if you already own the first set.

Here are the Special Features (which are the same as on the original release):
Outtakes
"Four Women" profile of Patricia Routledge
The Kitty Monologues
Second Chance Shorts: Exclusive UK commercial featuring Hyacinth and Elizabeth
Pebble Mill interview with Patricia Routledge and Clive Swift
The Memoirs of Hyacinth Bucket
"Extra Footage" interviews from the cast
Comedy Connection
Children in Need
Cast Biographies

This is a wonderful series from the BBC about everyone's favorite social climber, Hyacinth Bucket (pronounced "bouquet"). Her house is spick-and-span. Richard, her long-suffering and hen-pecked husband, keeps the car in immaculate condition (under Hyacinth's every-watchful eye). The empty milk bottles sparkle on the doorstep after their obligatory rinse in the dishwasher. To Hyacinth's horror and shame, most of her family is dead common, living together in a rundown house that looks like a junkyard. Sister Daisy and her husband, Onslow, are out-and-out slobs while another other sister, Rose, is an aging tart, and Daddy is not quite "all there". At least she is proud of her 3rd sister, Violet, the one "with the Mercedes, a sauna, and room for a pony" although Violet's husband is a cross-dresser and somewhat of an embarrassment to Hyacinth. However, she loves them all, and never fails to rush to their assistance when they need her help. Often it is Daddy that has got into an embarrassing situation which Hyacinth (or Richard) has to always solve.

Highly recommended! Keeping Up Appearances: The Full Bouquet (2008) is available from this site. This (very funny) Christmas DVD is included! Or...do buy it and give it to a friend!

Burlesque (2010)

Burlesque (2010)
Burlesque is awesome! Its pure entertainment. Singing, dancing, acting, romance - oh my! The cast is wonderful! A classic story told again in a throwback to the musicals which is a formula that always works with the right people and the right music and in the right setting and it works here. I am bias to Christina Aguilera. :) She's an amazing singer and I am pleased to say in her acting debut she is terrific. I adore her with the very handsome and sexy Cam Gigandet. :) Who by the way can offer me a box of Famous Amos cookies ANYTIME! lol Anyone who likes musicals and romance or just wants to get away from movies about gangsters, pyschos and dead bodies will definitely enjoy this enjoyable movie. I love it! Burlesque is the Best!

Cloudy Chance Meatballs Two-Disc Blu-ray

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (Phil Lord and Chris Miller, 2009)

There are some movies where you come out of the theater talking about the camerawork and the acting, discussing plot points, picking things apart, arguing whether it was really the seventy-eighth best movie you've ever seen. And there are some movies where you exit the theater and say "Dude. That was AWESOME." Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is very much of the latter variety; no matter how silly and/or stupid the final half-hour may be (as the few critics who didn't like it have pointed out), it's still a blast.

Flint Lockwood (voice of Bill Hader, recently of Tropic Thunder) is a bumbling inventor who comes up with things that are kind of useful ("The Hair-Unbalder!" is the movie's first big laugh), but generally stupid. He lives on a small island just off the coast, the entire economy of which is derived from the sardine industry. It collapses, we learn, when the rest of the world realizes that sardines taste horrible. Inspired, Flint turns his attention to devising a machine that can turn water into food (in order to give the islanders some respite from eating three meals a day of sardines). Meanwhile, his father (voice of James Caan) wants him to go into the family business (bait and tackle, naturally), the local cop (voice of, yes, Mr. T) has an eye and a half on Flint thanks to previous experiments, and the Mayor (voice of Bruce Campbell) has staked the island's meager savings on the construction of an amusement park, which he hopes will begin a tourism industry. A station from the mainland has sent an enthusiastic weather girl (voice of Anna Faris, recently of The House Bunny) to cover the story. Flint's machine looks promising, but needs more power than he can get at home, so he decides to take it down to the power station on the day of the unveiling. Mishaps occur, the machine ends up shooting into the atmosphere, and just as inventor and weather girl meet, cheeseburgers begin raining from the sky. Oh, yes, there will be tourism. Read more...

Chronicles Narnia Voyage Treader Blu-ray

Chronicles Narnia Voyage Treader Blu-ray
I saw The Voyage of the Dawn Treader twice and really enjoyed it. Unlike the last film, this one had a better story. I especially liked Eustace and thought the actor did a fine job at portraying him. The ending was good, and this one had plenty of action and suspense. Lucy and Edmond were more developed in this film, as well as the other characters. This will be a enjoyable film for years to come.

Despicable Me Single-Disc

Despicable Me
I found this story to be trite and dull and lacking in any of the humanity that I have come to love and cherish with the Pixair movies. Despicable Me is dull and that is its worst failing. It has characters which are even more cartoonish than you would find in a cartoon. I found the plot very dull and difficult to follow. Not because it was overly complex, but due to the fact it was just so poorly written.

I also disliked the fact that the film lacked the genuine humanity of such great films as Toy Story or Wall-E or any of the Pixair movies. Those films have a level of humanity which is completely lacking in this film. If you get this for free it's worth your time. Otherwise it's not a very good movie. Two thumbs up. i did not expect it that i would like it as much as i did highly recommended for the family. Read more...

Train Your Dragon Single Disc

Train Your Dragon
How to Train Your Dragon is the latest from the stable of Dreamworks, but apart from the animation style, you'd never know it.

How to Train Your Dragon is the story of Hiccup, a Viking who feels out of place since he's not a fan of killing the dragons the Viking's world so revolves around in. But, when Hiccup captures the rare Night Fury Dragon and inadvertently injures it, the two become fast friends and attempt to bridge the gap of understanding between the Dragons & the Vikings. It may not sound like much, but things are deeper than they may seem here, and they are 3 reasons you need to go out and watch this movie right now.

1: Casting: Having seen Jay Baruchel as a geeky character in the film Fanboys, this film only solidifies for me the fact that Baruchel makes cliched characters feel real & brings traits out they wouldn't have otherwise, and this fact is very evident here. The same is true for the rest of the cast. In Shrek 2, Larry King was wasted in a long-running and painful transvestite joke. Here, Craig Ferguson is perfect in the role not only because he's Scottish, but he brings the appropriate mix of eccentric leadership needed for the right-hand man of Gerard Butler's character, who is also well cast. The same goes for the rest of the cast with the possible exception of Jonah Hill, who always feels out of place in almost every movie he's in. Read more...

Tron: Legacy Two-Disc Blu-ray Combo

Tron Legacy Two-Disc Blu-ray Combo
All in all I think Legacy is a better movie than the original. Better directed, sound, and acting. While I think the plot was on par with the original. Also, the film just looks great, the art direction is phenomenal. As a sequel though I think they kind of dropped the ball on it's potential. Instead of exploring a "Grid" with personified modern technology, they instead chose to go into a "Grid" only slightly more advanced than the original. Effectively bringing absolutely nothing new to the Grid other than a new special effects paint job.

Legacy has 4 different blu ray options, one of which is a bad deal here on amazon. The 5 disc edition (not the identity disc set)costs $50. That means it's $5 cheaper to just buy the 4 disc combo at $25 and then buy the original Tron on blu ray for $20. You save $5 and you get the original Tron in it's own box and a 2nd disc for dvd format. Read more...

The King's Speech (2010)

The King's Speech (2010)
Earlier this year when I started hearing raves about "The King's Speech" on the film festival circuit, I knew it was a film for me. I have eagerly awaited its arrival for many months and, as expected, it is a dignified and well scripted effort. Intelligent, adult entertainment of this sort only hits the theaters around awards time and there is no denying that "The King's Speech" is positioning itself perfectly for the year's biggest competition. In an unusual bit of bravado, David Seidler's screenplay is fashioned as a feel good underdog story. Yes, that's right--King George VI is a plucky survivor who must overcome adversity to win the respect of his family and his nation. It's an unusual tactic, really, but I think that's why so many people are responding to "The King's Speech" in a more personal way than past stories of regal history. The film humanizes this world leader in a very identifiable way.

The plotting of "The King's Speech" is pretty straightforward and most people will know the principle story through either history or the film's advertising. Colin Firth plays King George VI who battled with a bad stutter for most of his life. Trying to stay out of the spotlight, Firth has never worried about ascending to the throne as he has an older brother (Guy Pearce) who is in line for that distinction. However, Pearce ends up being more concerned with an inappropriate romance than with ruling a nation. Firth's wife (Helena Bonham Carter), meanwhile, has contracted an unusual speech therapist (Geoffrey Rush) that breaks all the rules. Insisting on equality with the future King, Rush and Firth form a tentative friendship. But as Firth takes his place in the monarchy just as World War II is imminent, he must unite the nation with his inaugural radio speech. Guess how it goes? Read more...

Friday Night Lights Fifth Season

Friday Night Lights Fifth Season
The lights have gone out on this fantastic series but it will continue to shine on DVD. Without any spoilers I will say the final season was a great season to go out on. They say that lights shine the brightest right before they burn out and the finale truly proved it. I'm sure many if not all of the fans who have watched it agree (if you haven't been able to view it yet you are in for a treat).

This season was jampacked with stories. I can only imagine how great it would have been had they had 22 episodes like the first season, but the 13 episode season has been as satisfying as any fan could hope for, especially with the beautifully done series finale. Connie Britton and Kyle Chandler continue to ground the show with their amazing performances and all around the acting is terrific. While, as another reviewer said, there is a noticeable lack of football games that we actually get to see there is no shortage in writing quality or character development. Not only are they doing great service to the new cast that was introduced last year, giving them each a chance to really grow as actors and characters, they are calling back and giving each of the original characters a curtain call of some kind. Megamind Single-Disc (2010)

Megamind Single-Disc (2010)
This movie is a first class production with all the right elements - excellent animation, good writing, quality actors doing the voices, an interesting storyline, etc. My kids enjoyed it and I would recommend it.

I really digged the big blue head! This was so funny & great for the kids. Megamind was great to show be careful of what you really want then turned his life around. I also love the extras they were great.

First, the humor. This movie is just plain fun to watch! Just the right balance between silly-slapstick and witty irony, lots of hilarious one-liners, references to other sci-fi films and comics, and, rare for an animated film, tiny subtle shifts in body language that betray what a character is thinking without any words necessary.

Next, the characters. All five of the main characters have a surprising amount of depth, making it easy to empathize with them, in part due to the gorgeous animation and incredibly realistic facial expressions. Megamind in particular has very expressive eyebrows, and you can literally see wrinkles appear in his forehead when he's upset, or smile lines in his cheeks when he gives that irrepressibly gleeful grin of his...you can't help but love him.
