Keeping Up Appearances Full Bouquet

Keeping Up Appearances: The Full Bouquet (2008)
This official name of this re-release is "Keeping up Appearances: The Full Bouquet Special Edition". Based on images of the set it appears to be in either slim-pack cases or a digi-pack design. This set contains the same 8 disks as the original "Full Bouquet" set along with the special "Keeping up Appearances: Life Lessons from Onslow" added as the 9th disk. The Onslow special is available separately so you don't need to double-dip for this title if you already own the first set.

Here are the Special Features (which are the same as on the original release):
Outtakes
"Four Women" profile of Patricia Routledge
The Kitty Monologues
Second Chance Shorts: Exclusive UK commercial featuring Hyacinth and Elizabeth
Pebble Mill interview with Patricia Routledge and Clive Swift
The Memoirs of Hyacinth Bucket
"Extra Footage" interviews from the cast
Comedy Connection
Children in Need
Cast Biographies

This is a wonderful series from the BBC about everyone's favorite social climber, Hyacinth Bucket (pronounced "bouquet"). Her house is spick-and-span. Richard, her long-suffering and hen-pecked husband, keeps the car in immaculate condition (under Hyacinth's every-watchful eye). The empty milk bottles sparkle on the doorstep after their obligatory rinse in the dishwasher. To Hyacinth's horror and shame, most of her family is dead common, living together in a rundown house that looks like a junkyard. Sister Daisy and her husband, Onslow, are out-and-out slobs while another other sister, Rose, is an aging tart, and Daddy is not quite "all there". At least she is proud of her 3rd sister, Violet, the one "with the Mercedes, a sauna, and room for a pony" although Violet's husband is a cross-dresser and somewhat of an embarrassment to Hyacinth. However, she loves them all, and never fails to rush to their assistance when they need her help. Often it is Daddy that has got into an embarrassing situation which Hyacinth (or Richard) has to always solve.

Highly recommended! Keeping Up Appearances: The Full Bouquet (2008) is available from this site. This (very funny) Christmas DVD is included! Or...do buy it and give it to a friend!

Despicable Me Single-Disc

Despicable Me
I found this story to be trite and dull and lacking in any of the humanity that I have come to love and cherish with the Pixair movies. Despicable Me is dull and that is its worst failing. It has characters which are even more cartoonish than you would find in a cartoon. I found the plot very dull and difficult to follow. Not because it was overly complex, but due to the fact it was just so poorly written.

I also disliked the fact that the film lacked the genuine humanity of such great films as Toy Story or Wall-E or any of the Pixair movies. Those films have a level of humanity which is completely lacking in this film. If you get this for free it's worth your time. Otherwise it's not a very good movie. Two thumbs up. i did not expect it that i would like it as much as i did highly recommended for the family. Read more...

Train Your Dragon Single Disc

Train Your Dragon
How to Train Your Dragon is the latest from the stable of Dreamworks, but apart from the animation style, you'd never know it.

How to Train Your Dragon is the story of Hiccup, a Viking who feels out of place since he's not a fan of killing the dragons the Viking's world so revolves around in. But, when Hiccup captures the rare Night Fury Dragon and inadvertently injures it, the two become fast friends and attempt to bridge the gap of understanding between the Dragons & the Vikings. It may not sound like much, but things are deeper than they may seem here, and they are 3 reasons you need to go out and watch this movie right now.

1: Casting: Having seen Jay Baruchel as a geeky character in the film Fanboys, this film only solidifies for me the fact that Baruchel makes cliched characters feel real & brings traits out they wouldn't have otherwise, and this fact is very evident here. The same is true for the rest of the cast. In Shrek 2, Larry King was wasted in a long-running and painful transvestite joke. Here, Craig Ferguson is perfect in the role not only because he's Scottish, but he brings the appropriate mix of eccentric leadership needed for the right-hand man of Gerard Butler's character, who is also well cast. The same goes for the rest of the cast with the possible exception of Jonah Hill, who always feels out of place in almost every movie he's in. Read more...

Megamind Single-Disc (2010)

Megamind Single-Disc (2010)
This movie is a first class production with all the right elements - excellent animation, good writing, quality actors doing the voices, an interesting storyline, etc. My kids enjoyed it and I would recommend it.

I really digged the big blue head! This was so funny & great for the kids. Megamind was great to show be careful of what you really want then turned his life around. I also love the extras they were great.

First, the humor. This movie is just plain fun to watch! Just the right balance between silly-slapstick and witty irony, lots of hilarious one-liners, references to other sci-fi films and comics, and, rare for an animated film, tiny subtle shifts in body language that betray what a character is thinking without any words necessary.

Next, the characters. All five of the main characters have a surprising amount of depth, making it easy to empathize with them, in part due to the gorgeous animation and incredibly realistic facial expressions. Megamind in particular has very expressive eyebrows, and you can literally see wrinkles appear in his forehead when he's upset, or smile lines in his cheeks when he gives that irrepressibly gleeful grin of his...you can't help but love him. Little Fockers (2010)

Little Fockers (2010)
This movie is very close to the mark, to what real life is like w/ kids and a family. Maybe that is why it is so funny to more people than the other reviews that are here. I had to do a review that told the real story rather than, "the worst movie ever", This movie is in my opinion one of the better one's out of the three. It goes over things that happen in a everyday life of a family, kids mad at their parents and not talking to them b/c of that, but talking thru the siblings or other parent to talk to them. The staleness between husband and wife, sexualy, b/c of the kids not getting to bed, ect. Relation to real life is what makes this movie so relatable to many parents and couples and will have you laughing at their problems that are yours also all night.

The carricters (Stiller and DeNero)come togeather and have more of a unity than in the other 2 previous movies. The movie is a very funny movie and has you laughing all the way thru. Parental review is suggested w/ smaller children as ther is a few parts that are sexuly explicit for younger children. Read more...

Tangled (2010)

Tangled (2010)
The marketing for Tangled was atrocious. It was the sole reason why I originally had no interest in this movie at all, and is why the majority of my friends still have no interest in seeing it. Although Disney's former attempt to "return to the glory days", The Princess and the Frog, was moderately well-received by critics, it was considered a financial failure. They marketed it as a warm-hearted Disney musical in the vein of the classics, but apparently the potential audience still wasn't that interested. Smart ol' Disney, attempting to learn from their mistakes, decide to go the polar opposite for the Tangled marketing. Bad idea! Now they've gotten even less people interested!

The marketing made Tangled (even the name gives it a cheesy, "edgy" feel) seem like this super-hip retelling of Rapunzel, full of non-essential gags and devoid of any warmth or heart. If that's what you think, you'll be pleasantly surprised if you give Tangled a chance. I bet you didn't even know it was a musical. It's a freaking Alan Menken musical! The composer from all of your favorite Disney movies, including Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and The Little Mermaid composed the songs for Tangled! And he's still got it! Does that get you excited? Well what if I told you that, contrary to the tone the ads create, Tangled is one of the most touching, beautiful, and joyous movies of the decade? EXCITED NOW?? You should be!

Tangled is absolutely PHENOMENAL! It's easily the strongest Disney movie since Lilo and Stitch (2002). I'd even say that it's at the very least in my mental 'top three Disney movies of all time' list. It's that good. Forget The Princess and the Frog. Tangled is the true return to what made Disney classics so fantastic and magical. Apparently it didn't have as much to do with it being hand-drawn as we might have thought. Read more...
